We are hoping to find Kirby the perfect forever home in the greater Seattle area. He was pulled from a rural Louisiana shelter with a bum leg.  It was later discovered that his owner never claimed him even though she knew he was at the shelter. Come to find out, his bum leg is from being run over when he was 8 weeks old and never getting it treated. Although his right rear leg is shorter and a little odd looking, it doesn't stop Kirby from running around the yard and playing with other dogs.  He absolutely loves other dogs and running around the yard, so we are hoping to provide him both of those things in his new forever home.

Kirby is a medium to high energy dog that loves to play. He gets along great with other dogs of all kinds and sizes and doesn’t mind cats - one sniff and he ignores them. Kirby is very obedient and is eager to please. Kirby has not been fostered around very young children, but he has proven to be good with ages 13 and older in his foster home. Kirby is a busy dog so he needs things to entertain himself with; otherwise, he might find something of yours to play with. When Kirby wants attention from his people, he will mouth your hand or arm gently. He just wants to make sure you know that he needs your attention at that moment.  He can stay in a crate up to 12 hours overnight without an accident.  We believe Kirby has a fairly low prey drive as he doesn’t usually have an interest in other small animals, but he will join a chase if another dog starts it.

If Kirby sounds like he might be a good fit for you and your household, please consider submitting an application for adoption.  Instructions and details are in the paragraph below.

As a purely foster based rescue, we have no central location where you can visit our dogs. Therefore, we only honor meet requests from pre-approved adopters, with an application on file.  Please fill in our online application at www.myaarf.org as fully as you can. Please allow at least 24-48 hours for a response from our busy volunteers. Kirby's Adoption Fee is $400 which includes all transport, vetting (including spay/neuter) and micro-chipping. *Proof of completion of obedience training is a requirement for adoption through AARF.*
