Abbie came to AARF because she was part of a cruelty investigation that lead to the arrest and prosecution of the homeowners of the property she was found on.  She was discovered chained to a car with no access to food, water or any shelter from the hot Louisiana sun.  There were almost forty dogs found on the property in similar conditions, even young puppies who were extremely sick and malnourished - many did not survive.  When we took Abbie to the vet, she weighed in at 33 lbs; however, she now weighs over 60 lbs and is finally learning how to be a dog.  She was extremely scared when she first arrived in her foster's home.  She was scared of men, stairs, and extremely shy and skittish.  However, she has slowly started to come out of her shell and now plays with toys and her foster siblings like any normal dog would.

She would love to be in a home with people who have a flexible schedule, or are retired and able to continue to help her grow in her confidence and comfort level.  She would also benefit from the encouragement and support of one or more foster siblings that can continue to teach her how a dog who is loved as part of a family behaves. She is a special girl and deserves a special home who will be patient, understanding and love her to her last day.

As a purely foster-based rescue, we have no central location where you can visit our dogs.  Therefore, we only honor meet requests from pre-approved adopters, with an application on file. Please complete our online adoption application at www.myaarf.org as fully as you can and allow 24-48 hours for a response from our busy volunteer staff. Abbie's adoption fee is $400 which includes transportation, vetting (including spay/neuter) and micro-chipping. Completion of obedience training is a requirement for adoption through AARF.
