Herman is a calm, sensitive guy who wants nothing more than to curl up near his human. He is a true gentleman and very respectful of whatever boundaries you put in place for him. With gentle correction he quickly modifies behaviors you want him to steer clear of, but can get his feelings hurt by any scolding. He is completely house trained and hasn’t had a single accident. While he does wonderfully in a crate, he is also fine left alone, uncrated. Herman hasn't chewed through anything that he has not had the okay to such as bully sticks or already torn toys. He waits for invitations to get on any furniture and walks like a true gentleman on a leash. Herman has great recall and is very familiar with his name, but being a hound, he WILL follow a scent and should be kept in fenced areas.

Herman is a sweet-tempered dog with all people, kids and other pets - big and small. He would love a companion dog in his future home, and gets along great with dogs of all sizes. He even shrinks himself down and army crawls to play with his puggle foster sister Mini! However, his true affinity is for his people, and as long as he can be close to you, he is happy. Herman is a little unsure about hardwood floors, but a pair of traction socks or a little coaxing, or clipping on a leash has him strutting around no problem. He responds very well to positive reinforcement for training but is a bit sensitive to any scolding. He tends to shy away from big or fast movements that seem threatening - even if unintentional. We believe he may have experienced abuse in his past. He is a major cuddler and will try to pull you in for a hug with his paws. If you are searching for a laid back, affectionate dog that needs minimal training, and just wants a lap to lay on - Herman is your guy. He’s a true companion dog and kind, gentle soul who wants nothing more than to make his human happy!

As a purely foster-based rescue, we have no central location where you can visit our dogs.  Therefore, we only honor meeting requests from pre-approved adopters, with an application on file. Please complete our online adoption application at www.myaarf.org/forms as fully as you can and allow 24-48 hours for a response from our busy volunteer staff. Herman's Adoption Fee is $400 which includes transportation, vetting (including spay/neuter) and micro-chipping. Completion of obedience training is a requirement for adoption through AARF.
