Honey Bun is a fun little pup who loves people and other dogs. She hasn't met cats yet but we are pretty sure she would do fine with them as she seems to have a very low prey drive.

Honey Bun has had a rough beginning to her life, when she was 9 weeks old her owner was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and could not care for her any longer so she was surrendered to a shelter in New Orleans. She is an active puppy who enjoys playing with her kennel mate, a border collie mix, and they love to wrestle and play. She isn't a hyper active pup, just a typical puppy who gets along with everyone. She is usually quiet when she is with her companion but she can get a little vocal when she is alone. Other than this her only negative point is that she will sometimes submissively urinate especially if frightened or startled. As she has not had a stable life so far and is a little unsure of herself and what is expected of her- she really just  wants to please. We are looking for a patient adopter who understands this is purely a submissive gesture and is willing to work on building her confidence. This minor point has nothing to do with her being disobedient and we are sure that as she gains confidence it will go away.

She hasn't been properly potty trained as yet, mostly because she has been sharing a kennel run outside BUT the good news is both she and her kennel mate have a particular area in the run where they potty and they keep the rest of the kennel clean. So we think she has an idea of being clean and she will train easily.

Due to losing her first home, Honeybun can be a little cautious at first in new situations but will warm up quickly. She is very friendly and affectionate once she gets used to new people. Whilst she loves to play when she is done she also loves snuggles and just hanging out together.  Like most youngsters she can be a little loud when she is lonely- so we don't think she would do well alone in an apartment. As with all puppies she is too young to be left alone for more than 2-3hr periods.

Honeybun has begun her leash training and crates well though she may protest some at first. She rides well in the car, is eager to please and very sweet and gentle with people.  We think she will bond well with a family that is able to spend time loving on her, Could that be you? She will be a fairly low maintenance pup with the need for periodic grooming, Though she would enjoy a companion animal we don't think it is a necessity.

Honeybun is at the age to be super adaptable and would be great in most situations, if you are interested in learning more about her, or wish to apply please read on...

As a purely foster based rescue we have no central location at which you can visit our dogs, consequently we only honor meeting requests from preapproved adopters.  Please fill in our online application at www.myaarf.org as fully as you can.  It won't obligate you to anything or any particular dog but gives us a great place from which to begin the matching process.  Please allow 24-48 hours for a response from our busy volunteers. Adoption Fee is $400 which includes all transport, vetting (including spay/neuter) and microchipping.
