Herman and his two sisters were found dumped in a road ditch during heavy rains in Texas. Sadly as the rescuer tried to gather up the puppies one was hit by a car and didn't make it- Herman was one of the lucky ones! All the puppies were suffering from mange, a severe bacterial infection, exposure, malnutrition and internal parasites. Thankfully they were immediately seen by a vet and all these issues have now been resolved. Herman's sisters have all found families of their own, now it's his turn! Herman is a typical fun loving puppy who loves to play with other dogs and is very friendly with people. He can be cautious with strangers on first introduction but it doesn't take long for him to warm up- he's not an "in your face" kinda guy and whilst active isn't hyper as you might expect from his border collie mix. He currently shares his outdoor kennel in Louisiana with another puppy-so would love a companion to play with and is scheduled to join us in Seattle towards the end of April. Whilst he isn't house trained he is smart and uses one area of his kennel to potty so we think he will get the hang of things very quickly once he arrives. As with all our puppies we require completion of obedience training on adoption- being a lab/collie mix Herman especially will benefit from having jobs to do to keep him out of trouble. A tired dog is a good dog! A bored dog will find his own fun..... consequently we believe in crate training so our puppies are safe when left home alone and so they cannot get themselves into any trouble! As he is so attentive to his people Herman is going to learn fast and may even enjoy agility training later on! Herman is currently great with all dogs though he may play a little rough for a toy breed. He is fairly quiet unless he is lonely or hungry and then will speak up to let you know. Whilst he hasn't yet been around cats or children we think he will do ok with both as we cannot imagine him meeting something or someone he cannot love! Do you think you might have the time and love to devote to this sweet boy? If so please read on for info on how to apply to be his family... As a purely foster based rescue we have no central location at which you can visit our dogs, consequently we only honor meeting requests from preapproved adopters. Please fill in our online application at www.myaarf.org as fully as you can. It won't obligate you to anything or any particular dog but gives us a great place from which to begin the matching process. Please allow 24-48 hours for a response from our busy volunteers. Adoption Fee is $400 which includes all transport, vetting (including spay/neuter) and microchipping.
