Pickles is a sweet young greyhound/hound mix around 11 months old who is looking for his forever home. As you can see from his photos he adores children and is very gentle with them, even the baby in his foster home. He loves to play with the foster puppies, but has quite the prey drive so we think would chase cats and should be kept away from them.   He is a very intelligent companion, and very treat motivated. He picks commands up very quickly and will do really well at training class. He knows a few basics but is hoping to find someone to enjoy a training class with him to bond and  perfect his skills.

He is crate trained, needs to work on leash skills and loves to play with toys and snuggle when he is done. He is still very much a puppy who is learning so will need time, patience and commitment from   his new family. As he is part greyhound he LOVES to run and is pretty fast so a family that is willing to exercise him at the local dog park, or with a large fenced back yard would be best. He does get vocal when he is excited and playing so not the best match for an apartment dweller.

Pickles is absolutely one of the the sweetest, happiest dogs. He is very affectionate, loves to cuddle and sleep on people (in whatever position you arrange him ), and he doesn't demonstrate aggressive behavior with any people or dogs. He lets you touch his feet and fiddle with his ears without fussing. He's a trusting boy. He is pretty much fully crate trained (quiets down after a little protesting) and sleeps through the night in his crate. He's very green but picks up new commands easily. He's not easily made anxious (as we saw on his big trip up from Louisiana!) and is curious--not fearful--of new things. He is submissive with other dogs and just wants to play with everyone. His size (30 lbs) is also ideal for someone like me who can't comfortably pick up a huge dog. Also, he's an easy eater who doesn't have any digestion issues as far as we've seen.

Pickles is an energetic puppy who loves to  play and have fun.  He sleeps for hours but when he's up he plays well with toys especially when they involve food. He's mostly housebroken, and has a clear preference for the yard over the leash. He is a private pottier and thus has never pooped while on the leash so would do best with his own yard and space  to go potty on his own.  He has had a little leash training but like most young puppies can be pretty wild on walks so needs to be introduced to a training class asap. He is also going through the teething puppy stage and when he's feeling playful, gets a little mouthy. It's not violent and with redirection he will learn fast. No-one has taught him that people aren't dogs . Dog savvy kids therefore are a must and a family  willing to train.

Are you ready to commit to giving Pickles a new lease on life?  If so please read on to see how to apply to meet his handsome fellow:

As a purely foster based rescue we have no central location at which you can visit our dogs, consequently we only honor meeting requests from preapproved adopters.  Please fill in our online application at www.myaarf.org as fully as you can.  It won't obligate you to anything or any particular dog but gives us a great place from which to begin the matching process.  Please allow 24-48 hours for a response from our busy volunteers. Adoption Fee is $400 which includes all transport, vetting (including spay/neuter) and microchipping.
