Meet Nelson!   He is one of 4 siblings arriving in Seattle on September 24th.  He is about 17 weeks old and weigh's approximately 19 lbs.   Nelson and his siblings were dumped at a rural shelter when they were 7 weeks old and very sick: they were so weak they couldn't stand up.  The vet treated them for  anemia, worms, coccidia and a staph infection and they were nursed back to health at a volunteer's home.  

Nelson is just a wee bit shy around new people and situations but by no means timid. He adores other dogs and loves to play--he would do well in a home with a canine friend to show him the ropes. Nelson is a sweet boy who would adjust to either an active lifestyle or a more sedentary one (as long as he had some regular exercise). He is not an "in your face" or hyper type dog--not as rambunctious as Nathan but still quite active and playful. Once he figures out what is expected of him, he seems to have a real desire to please. He was the easiest of the puppies to photograph. I love the pic of him with his front paw in the air!  **  Note -  the crate in some of the pictures is not dirty, just stained from lots of use!  **

The puppies will be fully vaccinated before they come to Seattle and will be spayed/neutered at our cost before they are 6 months old.  They will need training and a requirement is attending a puppy class .  

We believe that these puppies are Border Collie mixes based on their body type and coloration but since we know nothing about their parents we can't be certain.  

Border Collies are very active and Nelson seems to fit this profile; he will need a family that is active as well,  running partner, trips to the dog park, hiking etc.  

As Nelson is still a puppy he cannot be left alone for long periods of time, will need a safe puppy proofed environment and someone with lots of patience!  If that could be you, we do require a home and reference checks before adoption and with our puppies the adoption contract states that a training class is also mandatory.  As a purely foster based rescue we have no central location at which you can visit our dogs, consequently we only honor meeting requests from preapproved adopters.  You are welcome to fill in our online application at www.myaarf.org; please fill this in as fully as you can.  It won't obligate you to anything or any particular dog but gives us a great place from which to begin the matching process.  Please allow 24-48 hours for a response from our busy volunteers.  Adoption fee is $400 which includes all transport, vetting (including spay/neuter) and microchipping.
